A place worth visiting is the Nádasdy Castle, which stores and preserves values accumulated over more than a thousand years of history, and has been a part of Hungary’s national heritage with its typical gatehouse and the arched bridge over the castle moat. The Renaissance castle is surrounded by the park, which has been set up in place of the former castle moat. The shape of the inner courtyard is an asymmetrical pentagon; this place hosts outdoor music concerts, cultural events, festivals, popular markets as the weather is getting warmer. One of its most important programs is the traditional Nádasdy Historical Festival, held each year in July, which is a spectacular journey through time, back to the everyday life of a market-town in the Kingdom of Hungary in the 17th century. The program of the festival begins with the Báthory Feast, where traditional dishes of the epoch are served within medieval ceremony; moreover there is a continuous fighting during the festival weekend, but in the meantime, the life changes into a colourful bustle full of joy and fun.
A 16-hectare Arboretum, to be proud of many rare plants, is located adjacently.
The Boating Lake that consists of seven lakes, the bank of River Rába and the ”Vadkert” offer the pleasures of biking, fishing, hunting, horse riding and hiking for those ones searching for active recreation. River Rába provides ideal circumstances for water tours.
A new value was added to the town in the autumn of 2014: the forest park had been renovated and offers now, as “Sárvár Excursion Forest”, excellent leisure program for the guests visiting the spa town.
Numerous restaurants, taverns and wine cellars are available for the gastronomy and wine lovers with themed evenings week by week, and pleasant terraces, charming gardens in summers.
Many cultural programs of high-quality enhance the attractiveness of the town, such as the International Folklore Festival, the International Wind-band Festival, the “Vármeeting” International Motorbike meeting and Rock Festival held every year at the first weekend of August, as well as the national Simon-Judas Day Fair in October.
